Double Crust Pizza

This week I wanted to step away from the baked good and sweets. Instead, I wanted to bake something else that I loved... PIZZA! As I was searching online for various recipes, I stumbled across one which seemed to be very interesting and fun to make. It is called double crust pizza. I used this as a bonding experience with my brother and we had a good time making it!

Originally we wanted to make the crust from scratch however we found that to be unrealistic at the time. Instead, we bought 2 cans of Pillsbury pizza crust. We also bought the rest of the ingredients which would be various types of cheeses, tomato sauce, and pepperoni. It was a lengthy process that didn't end up going the way we wanted it to. For instance, the crust didn't look as nice as we thought it would and the pizza was entirely too greasy. Other than that the pizza was delicious (once we wiped off all the excess grease)! The double crust with cheese in between was a nice touch and I wouldn't mind making it again.

Rice Krispie Sushi

My oven is a little under the weather, but that won't stop me from making a fun treat! I know, this is supposed to be a blog about baking but with no oven the show must go on! While searching around the internet, I found a little treat called Rice Krispie Sushi. At first I thought this would be disgusting, until I read up on the actual ingredients. So as I'm sure you already know this isn't real sushi. The rice is replaced with Rice Krispie treat, the fish are replaced with Swedish Fish, and the leaf is replaced with fruit rollup! Do you have a sugar high yet? If not, you will after you make this yummy treat!

The first steps include making Rice Krispie treats. One of the easiest things to make! The amount of marshmallows you need are based on your own personal preference, I tend to use a lot. However, be careful. The more marshmallows you use the more difficult it is to deal with. Once thats done you can cut the Rice Krispies into squares and add the swedish fish and fruit rollup!

Peach Biscuits

Last week I made banana pudding which involved me using fresh fruit. Today I wanted to expand on that topic. The other day I saw a recipe on how to make peach cobbler. However, I made a slight twist to it where I would be putting the peaches inside buttermilk biscuits. Initially I thought this would be a great idea, but I was wrong.

Once the biscuits went into the oven, the dough began to rise which essentially pushed the peaches out of the biscuit. By the end of the baking period, there would be one or two peaches still remaining within the biscuit.

Although all the biscuits did not come out to be a complete fail, overall it was a mess. In the future I need to figure out the appropriate kind of dough to use because clearly buttermilk biscuits were not the best choice.

Fruit Pizza!

This week I decided to make a dish that was passed down to me by my aunt. I remember eating this at all the family gatherings when I was little. Once I was old enough she gave me the recipe so that I could make on my own. It's a fun easy recipe that will give you a finished product that everyone will love! This dish also includes my goal for this week of using fresh fruit (strawberries).

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Take your butter and put it in a pan on low heat. Let simmer until it melts.

Next, crush up the frosted flakes into very small pieces.
I used a food processor, but you could use anything.

Now you will mix together the  frosted flakes and the melted butter. Stir until the frosted flakes have an even coating of butter. Once you have done that, spread the frosted flakes mixture evenly into your pan. After that, place the pan into the oven. Let it bake for about 15 minutes or until the crust creates a golden brown color. When it's finished, let the crust cool completely.

Next you will mix together marshmallow fluff and cream cheese.
You may not need to use the entire jar of marshmallow fluff.
It all depends on how sweet you want the mix to be.
Once the crust is completely cool you can spread the mix onto the crust.

Lastly, cut up the strawberries (or fruit of choice) into thin slices.
Spread evenly onto the marshmallow fluff mix. This dish is best served chilled.

You now have a quick and easy dish that I'm sure everyone will love! Enjoy!

More Bananas!

For this week I have a very basic recipe which involves fresh fruit (yet again). Instead of baking something complicated I simply wanted to bake a quick loaf of banana bread. It falls into the theme of using fresh fruit. Where do the bananas come in? Well in order to make this bread, you need to mash up about 4-5 bananas (depending on the size of the pan). You also need other ingredients such as nutmeg, cinnamon, flour, butter, and baking powder. Be cautious about the amount of time you leave the bread in the oven, if left too long your bread could come out very dry.

Food Coloring

This week, I wanted to focus on the use of food coloring. I thought that this would be a nice finishing touch to the cookies that I made last week. However, instead of using cookies I decided to bake cupcakes in honor of my best friend's birthday. I also brought back the use of sprinkles to accompany the food coloring. I was never really big on decorating things that I baked but if done correctly, this could be a great skill to have.

As you can see in the picture below, the food coloring didn't really even out too well. Instead of the icing coming out red, the icing came out with red patches. This had a lot to do with the type of food coloring I purchased. The food coloring I bought came in a can where you are supposed to spray it on which would explain why the coloring came out the way it did. In the future, I want to get the food coloring that you mix in and in assorted colors. Stay tuned :)

B-A-N-A-N-A-S

Today I wanted to try to make something involving fresh fruit. With that being said, I decided to make banana pudding which is made using fresh bananas. Along with that, you also need cream cheese, butter, condensed milk, whipped cream, and chessman cookies (optional).

The hardest part to the banana pudding would be the technique of smoothing out the cream cheese and sweet condensed milk using a wooden spoon. It was also very hard working with the fresh fruit because you had to wait until the bananas were ripe so that they will not change the taste of the pudding in the end.
